Hi, I’m Emily. I’m a native Chinese, born and raised in China. Recently I moved to the States, so yea, I miss my delicious hometown dish, and it’s not easy to find an authentic Chinese restaurant in the area I live. I love cooking, but you know sometimes you still want to go out and have something different with homemade food.
My mom started cooking after marriage, so she bought a lot of recipe books at home. When I was a little kid, I liked to look through those books, however, I never thought I might be interested in it. Sometimes I was just in and out of the kitchen and peeked what mom was cooking. I guess that was how I learned cooking. I started cooking at very young age for my younger sister when my parents were busy at work. Those cook books were really the first step. Back to that time, the cook book was still very simple and only texts. I made some simple dishes that my sister liked to eat. There were also a lot of mistakes, but everything is eatable. 😛
I remember there was one time, some of my classmates and I am supposed to go out for the picnic. We brought everything we needed, but we ended up to come to our house lol and we were hungry, so we just started to make hot pot on the gas!! It was no doubt that I was in trouble eventually, not because of any accident but because I wasted a lot of gas! Obviously, no one makes hot pot on the gas but the induction, as you need to keep the heat on all the time. But we did enjoy that special meal we made ourselves, and everyone was happy except my mom.
Now I cook almost every day, and my husband loves the food I made. From time to time, he told me we can bring this dish to the church! And I still remember our guests loved the eggplants I cooked on our lovely wedding ceremony. My husband is always my inspiration and he loves Chinese food, I’m just so encouraged to cook. I also try to be creative and make some American fusion food for him. 🙂 So you might find there is some food recipes I posted on this website are not Chinese cuisine but most.
I built this website to share authentic Chinese food with everyone, I don’t know when it can be completely done, as I feel too many improvements I still need to do! And I still keep adding recipes every day. Just feel free to come back to check and see if there is something surprise you :p Meanwhile, let me know if you want to learn any Chinese dish that is not on this website, or any improvement you think I can make on this website. And I love to share the cooking experience with you.
I enjoy talking about my culture and language with people who are interested in it. Many people are fascinated by Chinese mysterious culture. I do think the food is the easiest way to get close to a person and a culture. Every Chinese housewife owns a wok at home, so you might already know what “way2wok” means. I just want this website to be a start for your exciting journey of exploring Chinese food or culture.
Oh, by the way, I’m still improving my English, even I have been using it for more than 15 years, please bare with me of any typo or mistakes here. :p
